Vision for development

It is our aim to:

Reinvent regional rail as a sustainable part of the supply chain by introducing new technology and supporting our people to provide a professional service to our customers.

This will be achieved by:

Investing in technology and innovation to ensure regional rail is able to offer an efficient, viable and reliable service.

Vision

Development

  • Planning commenced in March 2007
  • Construction of Stage 1 commenced in June 2008
  • Site operations began in July 2009

Stage 2 (to be completed by 2013) will include rail technology and training centre, national driver training facilities and further warehousing developments.

Stage 1 has been developed at an estimated cost of $11 million. The total capital expenditure over both stages is estimated at approx $22 million.

Why use an intermodal hub?

The Ettamogah Rail Hub will:
  • allow the most efficient mode of transport to be used to carry freight to regional and urban areas
  • combine road and rail transport to offer flexibility
  • provide 'just-in-time' delivery
  • cater for the different elements of the transport task
  • offer significant benefits to regional and national industry.
A viable and efficient intermodal freight network will greatly benefit freight customers and carriers, and will have positive impacts for regional, rural and urban communities and for the environment.
